I’m Amy, author, designer and founder of the sewing pattern publisher Indygo Junction.
I love collecting home arts and fashion ephemera, as well as vintage fabric, textiles, and needle arts.
When I'm not helping with homework, chauffeuring my wild thing to one of his many activities, or dealing with any other aspect of the day to day grind, I'm a fabric-obsessed quilter, author, pattern designer, and quilt teacher!
Life keeps me busy of course, but I make time to quilt- and our whole family is happier for it. It's my creative outlet and my stress-reliever- in short, I'm infatuated with it!
I so enjoyed working with fabrics and colors that they liked and were outside my comfort zone. I then became passionate about creating fun and fresh projects.
The wide variety of fabrics and designers makes this an amazing job. I currently design projects for Melissa Ybarra/Iza Pearl Design, Carrie Bloomston, Alison Glass, and Gina Martin Design
Five Random Facts About Me
1. I always have such a hard time talking about myself. I would rather listen to other people talk about themselves.
2. Right after I got married, my husband told me I needed a hobby. So I blame him for my quilting addiction. 3. When I am not inside quilting, I am probably outside in the garden, or out for a run.
4. One of my biggest pet peeves is having to repeat myself. Needless to say, it happens a lot because I am the quiet one in my family.
5. My favorite color is dark blue. But I don't do a lot of quilting with dark colors.
Over the years I’ve seen my design preferences evolve from mainly machine applique to mainly scrappy, but I still like to mix it up with new stuff all the time.
My one constant design style is one of "fun over fuss," and I unapologetically preach the gospel of "Perfection is Overrated" through my trunk show lecture of the same name. Who needs matching points fouling up an otherwise cool design, after all?
I have been a crafter my entire life. I started with hand sewing when I was younger, then expanding to crocheting, knitting, needle felting, paper crafts, and finally quilting. I fell in love with the variety of quilting!
I'm an engineer by schooling and day job, but quilting definitely energizes and motivates me the most. Hence, my blog: Powered by Quilting.
I made my first quilt in 1997 while expecting my first child. In 2012, and many quilts later, I created the online pattern company and website called Butterfly Threads Quilting.
I have published over a dozen patterns, created three templates, been featured in Quilt Magazine, Primitive Quilts and Patchwork, Fons and Porter Easy Quilts, and the American Patchwork and Quilting Calendar.
I am a Southern California girl who loves anything creative. I have been quilting for 16 years and have the fabric stash to prove it. You can usually find me in one of three places: the fabric store, the thrift store, or the home improvement store. I love sharing my ideas and giving my projects as gifts.
